The aquarium, crazy transit rides, and..................... Nelly got a make-over!

Hello Nelly Belliers!

I'm baaaaaaaack. Since it has been a while since I have put up a blog post, I have lots of random updates and stories, so please bare with the randomness that's about to occur.

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine's Day! What did everyone get up to? Chris took the day off work and we went for a delicious brunch and then we headed to the brand-new Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada (pictures below). It is supposed to be one of the biggest aquariums in North America - but I'm not sure what number it would be in the line-up. I know the aquarium in Atlanta, Georgia is supposed to be the biggest in North America. If anyone knows where the Ripley's Aquarium of Canada falls, post below! Anyhoo, the best part was the glass that curved over top of us as we rode the conveyor belt for a good 20 minutes. We had sharks (including saw sharks), stingrays, and a bazillion types of fish swimming around and above us. The worst part was how busy it was, but that's expected. Overall I would definitely recommend going if you have never been before. It is fairly pricey, but since it is something you probably wouldn't be doing that often, it's worth it, and if you have kids they will love it. We had a really fun day, and I love that Chris took the day off to spend with me, and that he put thought into the day. For me, that's a million times more special than a bunch of roses.

Crack-a-Lackin

A few week-ends ago my week-end started off on a crack-a-lackin note. I was taking transit home from work and literally saw someone smoking crack at the back of the streetcar. I had to do a triple take because I was convinced that I was just seeing things due to my extreme tiredness of the work week, but nope, it was not an apparition! It was real! It wasn't long before the fella got off transit, so I didn't have time to tell the driver... but boy was it a shocker! Definitely a first in my entire life!

Here she comes Miss Canada.... Nelly got a make-over!

We decided to take Nelly to the groomers today. The harsh winter conditions took a toll on her and she also needed her buttox glands emptied (gross, but common). She got a wash and dry, her nails clipped, a trim (in all the Westie areas), and of course the dreaded glandular procedure. She honestly looks and smells like a new dog (I think she smells better than us!). Not only does she smell like a fresh garden, but Nelly could definitely enter a beauty contest now. The cutest part was that they put a sort of pink bandanna on her. I will be keeping it on as long as possible, it is tres chic!

I HIGHLY recommend taking your dog to the groomer once in a while (and definitely when your dog has glandular issues). We wash her ourselves all the time, but it's not the same. They obviously have the right facilities, the right techniques, and the right tools to get the job done right (can I say right one more time? ohhhh just did). Also, unless you want to empty those sacks yourself (yuck!) then you have to take your puppy or dog to the groomers to get it done (they could become infected so it's very important to go as soon as you notice something is wrong). You can also get your vet to empty them, but it probably ends up being more expensive and your four-legged friend doesn't get a day at the spa!

Lovin' it / Not into it

Last night we watched a marathon of "Hello Ladies". If you haven't heard of this TV show, it was created by Stephen Merchant, Lee Eisenberg, and Gene Stupnitsky and is basically about a Brit who moves to Los Angeles looking for love (or sometimes just some fun if you know what I mean). It is extremely well written and you will definitely laugh out loud when you watch it. Unfortunately it was cancelled in January of this year, but they will be doing a special ending to wrap up the series. There is a slight silver lining to this dark cloud.
Frankly I am shocked that it was cancelled and highly disappointed. It was one of the few great shows out there!

Sadly, things have taken a turn with my view on Juan Pablo (the current Bachelor). The more that I watch him, the more that I feel like he is a bit of a slime-ball (kissing bandit), and with each episode I find it harder to understand what possible conversations he could be having with these girls (and how these girls are staying awake on their dates). There doesn't seem to be any depth or realness in this particular season. Yes, I know we can't expect much from a reality show, but in terms of every past season of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette, this has to be the worst in regards to seeing any type of real connection (beyond lip connection). My sister and I will still post our comments on upcoming episodes, but they may take a bit longer as Chris and I just got rid of our cable (I will watch upcoming episodes online)! Yahoooo! A great feeling. Say no to cable.

If you're looking for an online recipe resource, then I highly recommend checking out New Zealand Woman's Weekly website. They offer a wide variety of recipes, and they are constantly updating them so things never grow old. Also, you'll get some great international recipe ideas (unless you are from there of course). I get really bored with the same old Canadian websites, so I am always on the search for new little hidden gems. I used to make a lot of their recipes when I was living in New Zealand, so not only do I get to cook things from another place, but it also brings back a lot of memories for me. My flatmates in Auckland and I used to take turns cooking every night, and we would each pick a different place in the world and create a dish inspired by our chosen location. Definitely a happy time for me, and every meal was mouth watering! What recipe websites do you like to use? Post below!

Duh Duh Duh Duhhhhh [Insert Sound of Trumpets]

I will definitely be more consistent with posting blogs and getting back into my vlogging. Things have been a wee bit hectic, but thankfully things have calmed down a bit so I can get back on track. Also, I will definitely have more exciting things to talk about VERY soon! So stay tuned. Because I have been a tad slack, I have posted extra photographs on this post to make up for it.

Where Have I Been? What Would Make Me Happy? and The Bachelor Double Episode Update

Hello Nelly Belliers!

Happy hump-day (aka Wednesday)! [sounds rude but it's not]

WHERE HAVE I BEEN?

Working... trying to catch up with University course work... the gym... trying to stay warm in this "feels like minus 30 degree weather".... and planning life stuff.

As some of you have noticed my blogging hasn't been as regular lately, which is simply because of time (or lack of it). Also, I find it really hard to find motivation when the world around me is frozen. You get home from work, you eat, and then you just want to crawl under a blanket and stay there... forever....call it the Winter blues. I am ready for Spring, actually I was ready a few months ago!

I also wanted to put the focus on my friend's 2-year old daughter. If you haven't read those posts click here and here, and please help any way that you can. Spread the word and don't forget that If you are in Vancouver (or know someone that will be) on February 2nd, 2014 then please attend this Swab Event / Marrow Donor Registry Drive in hopes to find a donor match for Nadia. This is a life or death matter, and time is of the essence. Click here for more details.

Anyhoo... this blog is going to be long and random, so I apologize in advance. I have a few things that I need to catch up on, and random thoughts in my head, so here we go......

WHAT AM I LOVING RIGHT NOW?
WINTER BLUES BE GONE!

Thanks to one of the many blogs / vlogs that I follow, I now have some new tunes to listen to. Mindy Gledhill is not only gorgeous, but she sounds like a stroll in the park on a perfect Summer's day. Her music is great to listen to if you are experiencing Winter blues like me. Her voice will make you feel happier, and you might even find yourself dancing and singing along to her songs! I highly recommend listening to "Whole Wide World" and pretty much every song that she has released. Click here to check out her awesome and super adorable website!

Tuna and apple wraps. Ever since I was a little girl my mum would always make me tuna sandwiches in a special way; she would add some granny smith apple slices on top! We are on a bit of a health kick right now, so we're trying not to eat bread, but this concept is just as delicious on a warmed-in-the-oven wrap. It may sound insignificant but I promise you it takes tuna sandwiches / wraps to a whole new level. Add some ground pepper to your tuna / mayo mix and you've got yourself a mouth watering creation.

Staying nearly naked with Revlon's Nearly Naked Pressed Powder. I am using the colour "light - 020" and it works a charm. I find that my foundation stays on a lot longer when I use this product over top of it, and I love how soft and smooth it is. It has great coverage, it is very lightweight, and there is no fallout when you apply it. The light shade is perfect for my pale Winter complexion, and I find it really compliments my other make-up products. The price point is good to (it retails for about $9.99 but I was able to get mine on sale), and you can buy it at your local drug store! Click here to find out where you can buy it. One negative is the applicator it comes with, however most applicators that come with make-up are usually cheap and cheerful. I recommend using a nice big soft brush to apply this powder.

Time with friends. For those of you who don't know I didn't get a lot of friend time when I was taking a full-time course load. This semester is part-time (hence why I'm working at the same time) and it just so happens that I get to work in the same building as one of my really good friends. I get to see her every day, and even though it feels like minus 30 degrees Celsius outside, we still make sure that we go for a lunch time walk together after we have eaten. It's been soooooooooo nice getting to hang out with her again. She is one of those people that you could see every day and you would always have a great time. I am making a conscious effort to have a bit more balance in my life, so this time together really does make a huge difference. This week-end we are heading out with some of our other friends as well, and I am definitely looking forward to a night of laughter and fun!

THE BACHELOR CATCH-UP
EPISODE 3 (Jan 20) & EPISODE 4 (Jan 27)

'Sisters Tell All' - The Bachelor - Episode 3

VICTORIA'S THOUGHTS (ME)
  • I can't find my notes on Episode 3 - oops!

SISTA K's THOUGHTS (MY SISTER)

  • Chris Harrison must be hurting for money...he sewed two shirts together to make himself a new one :) Maybe I was hallucinating, and that shirt was a side effect of my migraine ;)... (haha I totally commented on his shirt as well; time for a new wardrobe assistant!)
  • Cassandra. Riding in a water car is now on my bucket list!! I like her, but I think she's too young for Juan P. First date since she was 18 - wow.
  • Kelly is still bugging me. Every single thing she says bugs me. Wonder if they're setting her up to be a villain. Every time she's on screen I see that spotty puppy costume from last week. Maybe that's what caused my headache? It was definitely visually disturbing :)
  • Soccer match. The only thing I really noticed in this segment was the opera singer getting knocked down...but she got up again...I feel some tub thumping coming on! OK, I may have noticed Juan Pablo in his soccer gear.
  • Nikki the nurse. Juan P likes her vibe. He juants to get to know her better. I think she'll be around for a while.
  • Andi. Hmmm, he didn't kiss Nikki but he jumped right in there with Andi. Maybe he was afraid she'd prosecute him if he didn't. (haha you are on a roll!)
  • My spell check turned Sharleen into 'shark even'. Wonder if that's foreshadowing! I cannot figure her out. I want to like her, but I'm not there.
  • Sean told JP never to let the other girls see him kissing someone. Oops! Andi's definitely prosecuting now!!
  • Chelsie told Juan Pablo that she liked his music pretty much before the first note was over. Red flag, but I like her. The bungee jumping spot is kind of ugly. As Juan Pabs says, 'Holy moly macaroni!'. I knew she'd jump. For a minute there I thought I was psychic, but then my bubble burst and I realized that I saw the preview! Guess I can't quit my job and start a psychic line now. Goodbye fame and fortune :(
  • Elise is a green eyed monster!! Or, as my son would say, 'Jelly Bro?' So mature at 27 compared to those 25 year old babies! Wonder if she'll look back one day and see the irony in her words?
  • Juan Pablo is cooking in the kitchen!! He's making breakfast too :)
  • Pool party's on. Kelly is nasty! I would love to know how Sharleen ended up applying for the show. Maybe she never watched it before and thought she was auditioning for the new opera, 'El Bachelor'. Clare is crying...Renee to the rescue again! Maybe she thought she was auditioning for 'El Counsellor'.
  • Time for the rose ceremony. Naked girl is gone. She didn't take her shirt off this episode. Coincidence, maybe?? I juander who the other girl is...I think my migraine affected my memory too!!

'Sisters Tell All' - The Bachelor - Episode 4

VICTORIA'S THOUGHTS (ME)

  • Nikki. Still no one on one date..... yikes! She got the group rose and a smooch don't think she cares any more about no one on one.
  • K pop. Guess I'm getting old.
  • Kat. She doesn't come off very authentic. I actually think she has quite low self-esteem & doesn't know who she is yet. She needs time to grow up and find out who she is and what she wants out of life. She is not the juan.
  • Cassandra. I like her. She seems mature and a good role model. She's a lady! [insert quote from Little Britain here "I'm a lady" - just one of those many moments where I have a random thought pop in my head]
  • Clare. Doesn't know if Sharleen and Juan are right for each other? Aka jealousy. I'm not a fan! "Omg I ate octopus" - bahahaha. She always needs the focus on her, and you can see her panicking when it's not. Another one that needs to go and spend some time with herself for a while.
  • 2nd Group Date. Felt soooooooooo bad for Lauren S. Clearly he just didn't want to kiss HER. Juan let me down a bit on this date. He didn't act like a man with Lauren, he acted like a chicken, and his "no kissing" rule went out the door with the snap of a Clare!
  • Andi. She is growing on me.. but very slowly.
  • Chelsie. Wow! Time to go! Puttin' it on thick and I'm starting to suffocate.
  • Sharleen. I am liking her more and more. She keeps it real, and I like that she makes fun of him (in a nice bantery way). They have fun together and now have non "bland conversation" - aka. he's not an idiot. I think it was Sharleen that said "there's a shot we could fall in love".... I like whoever said that. Keepin' it real and not sounding psycho like some of the others.
  • "I'm in a mice" bahahahahaaaaa - my kind of humour.
  • Danielle. No air time whatsoever. Is this a trick to make us think she is not in the running, but she really is?
  • Alli. Again another one that I question if they are trying to trick us?
  • Kelly Meow. (totes agree...see my sister's comment below)
  • Renee. I still heart her, but I want to fix her mascara and eyebrows badly. Not being mean, but it looks like she has two spiders on her face. Where are The Bachelor make-up artists?
  • Feet fish thing banned in Canada - hello not sanitary!
  • Elise. So long. I didn't really feel one way or another about Elise. Skirt under dress and dress way too big and all over the place? Again, where are The Bachelor wardrobe stylists?

SISTA K's THOUGHTS (MY SISTER)

  • Nikki. Even though the producers are mad at Nikki, JP obviously isn't. Don't think I've ever seen anyone get two group date roses in a row like that before.
  • 1st Group Date. Dance in a mall...very romantic...not!
  • Sharleen. This is the first time I've seen Juan Pabs have a conversation with anyone. Good to know that he is 'not bland'. Of all the compliments she could have picked, 'not bland' was the best she could come up with! Maybe next week she'll step it up a notch and tell him he's 'not stupid'? They do have chemistry, though. Not sure if she's step-mother material. Also not sure if he fully understood what she was saying about whether she wants kids...
  • 2nd Group Date. How mad must the girls peddling around in the swans be that they have to pedal around by themselves. Great way to get to know JPabs.
  • I will NEVER get a fishy foot treatment. Ewwwww. Who invented that????
  • Clare is clingy. Clingy Clare.
  • Kelly Meow. That's her new name. The ONLY screen time she gets is when she makes her catty comments.
  • No kissing from Juan tonight. Poor ladies.
  • Andi. Definite chemistry there.
  • Music composer girl...ouch!! She misread the moment, whether he was imposing a kissing ban or not. Awkward!!!
  • JPab where is your willpower? Two minutes after banning kissing for Camilla's honour, he's playing tonsil hockey with Clare.
  • Rose ceremony time. Why oh why did he pick Miss Kitty? Bye Elise and Lauren. Elise is going home to finish sewing her dress. At least Lauren was self aware enough to realize that she shouldn't have pounced on JuanP like that. Nojuan should pounce on anyjuan like that :)

NELLY BELLIE UPDATE

Nelly Bellie is great and adjusting well to my return to work situation. In fact there's a chance that she loves it. Freedom, and no daily motherly nagging, "Nelly no... Nelly stop... " :).

I have to say that even though I am not a big fan of office politics, it is nice having some time away from Nelly. Because of our space, our time together is more positive and fun. Just as you can spend too much time with one person, the same goes for animals (well it does for me at least). I need "me time" and I'm sure Nelly needs "naughty..I mean Nelly time". So it works out well for both of us.

I also think that a change of scenery in life allows you to see things from a different angle. You get a new perspective and for me that perspective is that we really do have a lovely and for the most part well-behaved puppy. Nelly and I just needed some time apart, and that's ok!

WHAT'S COMING UP & WHAT WOULD MAKE ME HAPPY?

Hopefully this weekend I will be able to film my Valentine's Day giveaway contest. It will be posted on my YouTube channel, and all details will be in the description. Stay tuned for that!

I am putting together a short and sweet 'Hour in the Life' video (don't worry it will not be an hour long), it's just not a full 'Day in the Life' video. I don't have the time right now to film a full day out and about, so I thought that a snippet here and there is better than nothing? I also want to put up shorter and longer videos for those of you who don't want to hear me ramble on forever, so this is a great opportunity to post something under 10 minutes! Let me know if that sounds good?

What would make me happy? I would really appreciate it if you guys would leave me a comment or question below this post. You can tell me about your week or your day, ask me a question about Nelly, ask me a question about Canada or myself, post a thought on this blog post, tell me your favourite Bachelorette, let me know if you like my video ideas above, or anything else that is not creepy or evil. It would make this weather a bit more bearable! :)

WEDNESDAY WINTER BLUES

Sorry that these pics aren't sunny and cheerful, but unfortunately I can't change the weather. At least Nelly doesn't seem to mind the cold snap! She loves going to the cemetery and we now have to kick snow balls and ice chunks for her non-stop. She is a chasing / fetching machine!

Tuesdays, Treats, & Truths - Nelly Bellie

Happy Tuesday Nelly Bellier's!

TREATS

I have a few treats for you today, including a 'Sisters Tell All' update on last nights The Bachelor episode, staring Juan Pablo.

Before we get in to The Bachelor, let's talk about some random things that I am loving right now. I always enjoy hearing about new products, or reading reviews on products that I use or am thinking about purchasing, so here are some of my current top recommendations.

My Current Random Recommendations

If you don't have the time to make your own pesto then I highly recommend Jamie Oliver's Green Pesto and his Italian Herb Pesto. I go through this stuff like there's no tomorrow, and I love using it on wraps. Who needs butter, mayonnaise, or mustard when you can have pesto? He also has some other types of pesto that I am excited to try. Here is a link to all of his pestos, which includes a list of some great ways to incorporate them into your meals.

If you have children and they are fussy eaters, or if you want to make something fun for a kids party, then I highly recommend getting some sandwich cutters from Pottery Barn (you can also buy them at many other stores). They come in all different shapes and your kids will love eating a sandwich that looks like a frog, a cupcake, or a train with a caboose! They are half price at Pottery Barn so click here to get yours. Who doesn't love a sale?!

About 1 - 2 months ago we switched Nelly over to Acana Puppy Food (for small breeds) and it has made a huge different to her tummy, her coat, and even to her leaking eye. West Highland Terriers have huge problems with allergies, so after doing some research and talking to a few people, we decided that Acana Puppy Food was the way to go. I won't regurgitate all of the reasons why I recommend this food, or what it has to offer, when it's all on their website, so click here. They have dog food for all ages, and all breeds and sizes, so if you are looking for some healthy, fabulous puppy or dog food, then I highly recommend giving their food a go. Nelly also recommends it, she loves it!

If you are looking for a really great face lotion, then I highly recommend Alyria's Oil Free Hydrating Lotion. Chris has had some issues with his skin over the years, and he has to use an oil free lotion no matter what. I am lucky and have pretty easy going skin. My skin is not oily at all but occasionally dry, especially during the winter months. Our dermatologist recommended this lotion, and we both love it. It comes with a pump so you don't have to worry about using too much or getting it all out of the bottle, and I only need one, to one and half pumps per use. This stuff soaks right in to your skin, and it's obviously not oily because it's oil free. It keeps our skin hydrated throughout the day and looking good! The best part is that we can share the bottle, which isn't always easy when you have different skin types. It is on the pricier side, but it is well worth it. You only have one face after all! Click here to find out more.

'Sisters Tell All' - The Bachelor - Episode 2

My sister and I definitely have some different opinions on the bachelorettes, which makes this collaboration so much fun! I also think you'll have a few 'laugh out loud moments' when you read my sisters thoughts; I know I did! (If you want to read our Episode 1 comments click here).

Feel free to add your thoughts in the comments area at the bottom of this blog.

VICTORIA'S THOUGHTS (ME)
  • Renee. Renee is definitely above and beyond the top bachelorette in my opinion (which I have said from Episode 1). They were super cute when they were cuddling together, and you could see that they wanted to kiss, but I think it’s very cool that they waited. I love her (yes I am going to go out on a limb and say that she is the one). I also love that she supports all of the other girls even when they are acting cray cray. Go Renee!
  • Clare. Seems flaky and fake to me. It is very sad about her dad's passing, but it doesn't mean they belong together. Again, like I said in 'Sisters Tell All - The Bachelor - Episode 1' something doesn’t feel right. I also think their first date was way too intense, and some of the things she said were over the top, like "I could definitely be falling for this guy…". She seems ready to marry him after one date.
  • Kat (medical sales rep). I like Kat. I think she is down to earth, funny, and cute. Their first date was a bit strange, but they had lots of fun together. I really feel that if you and your partner have the ability to have fun together in all different situations, then you will have a great and strong relationship.
  • Lucy. Naked girl. That is all. (Why didn’t he vote her off! Well he's probably enjoying her voyeurism, silly question.)
  • Cassandra. Also has a child (a son). She seems sweet and down to earth but I think she will end up going home on her own accord. I don't think she'll be able to be apart from her son for that much longer.
  • Amy L. (The girl who did the interview with Juan Pablo). I don't know about you but I found that whole scene with her interviewing Juan Pablo very awkward to watch. She was awkward, he looked like he wanted to run off camera, and I wanted to look away from the television. I don’t think that’s going anywhere. (I wrote that before she got voted off, again Juan and I are on the same page).
  • Sharleen. Aka first impression rose girl. I was really glad that she said she was rude when she accepted the first impression rose, because she was. I feel like she really needs to come out of her shell and maybe put down a few walls, but I can understand why they would be up on this show! I do like how she keeps it real though. I don't think anyone can know after spending a 10 minute conversation with someone that they are the one. She was honest and real from the get go, but she could have accepted the rose in a nicer way. I am still on the fence about Sharleen.
  • Victoria. Last but not least. To sum it up... oh no! First let me say as I said before, there can only be Juan Victoria and it’s not that girl! How embarrassing. I feel really embarrassed for her, and I’m pretty sure her name is Veronica, they made a mistake. I know that we all make mistakes, and I can't sit here and say to you that I've been perfect my whole life (haha), but she definitely did need to be voted off so that she can work and focus on herself for a bit. I think Juan Pablo handled it all impeccably, and like a true gentleman.

SISTA K's THOUGHTS (MY SISTER)
  • Clare. I like her. She skates like me, except she's better. Hopefully, she doesn't suffer from the first date curse. Next bachelorette if she's not 'the one'? She should date in real life too, though. Online dating can be great too. ;)
  • Juan Pablo took his shirt off...I think I blacked out for a minute :) Loving his track suit!! I want to do an electric run now!!) (this comment cracked me up Sista and I think we can all agree that Juan Pablo should take his shirt off more)
  • Hey that's Josh from the X Factor singing. Glad he was on the X Factor before the show became so bad that I banned it from our house!
  • Kat. He is verryy attracted to her!!! Don't think he needed the electric suit!
  • Lucy. I think she might stick around for a bit, but why??? Naked here, naked there, naked everywhere! Why doesn't she want a one-on-one date? So more people can see her naked!!
  • Andi. I like Andi. So does my husband, but in a different way. :) The naked pic with Andi, Juan Pablo, and Lucy looked like one of those pictures from those crazy/ugly picture sites that people post on Facebook though.
  • Wonder why he didn't kiss Renee. He's definitely not a kissing bandit like some of the previous Bachelors and Bachelorettes. She threw herself at him! She was nice to Cassandra.
  • Victoria. Oh my. Poor girl. Loved how Juan Pablo handled it. Felt so bad for her. Everyone makes mistakes.
  • Nikki the nurse. Juan Pablo likes her. She's going far.
  • Kelly. I don't like her. Just don't. The rose? Really? He must have been confused after all the drama with Victoria.
  • Amy. Hmm. OK. Her schtick is odd.
  • Opera girl Sharleen. Like her explanation for the first impression rose reaction. Don't like the bed sheet she was wearing.
  • Cassandra. Love that Juan Pablo didn't make out with her when she cried.
  • Rose ceremony comments: not surprised. That's all I have to say.

TRUTHS

Nelly Bellie Truths

I am happy to report that all is well with Nelly and I right now. She is now about 9 days away from turning 8 months, and she has definitely calmed down a lot. I can't believe I'm saying this, but she is actually being a little less stubborn as well (knock on wood that this continues). We still play and run around together a lot, but she also chill-axes a lot more too, and she seems to go with the ebb and flow of our life.
I am definitely enjoying this age.

She still loves her dad more than me (daddy's little girl) but I am totally ok with that, because she is a lover, not a fighter. I was just saying to mum today how lucky we are to have such a friendly and loving puppy. Nelly loves everyone. She always tries to say hello to anyone that passes us on the street, and she definitely has a kind and soft soul. She's a big time cuddle bunny and she loves us no matter what.

Life Truths

Have you ever noticed that when you make a decision in life, it's not long before the universe tells you that you made the right or wrong decision? Chris and I have made two pretty major life changing decisions, and I know that we have made the right ones because everything seems to be falling into place and I feel so much more peaceful and calm

I do think that it is important to weigh your options and to make pro and con lists, etc, but I also think that making a choice and putting action behind your choice will really give you all the answers that you need. Actions speak louder than words.

My bezziemate is off to Spain today for about 2 months with her husband and my non-blood nephew and niece. I am so excited for them and if you can afford to do something like this, then I say go for it! This experience is something that they will have for a life time, and their travel adventures can never be taken away from them by anyone. I love them so much, and wish them the most fabulous time! (Just a side note here. I know that we all can't afford to head off to Spain, but I think it's important that we also see what we can do. There are so many fun adventures that you can do on small budgets. Sometimes we forget what's in our backyard and we are quick to make obstacles for ourselves).

Life is an adventure if you choose to make it one, and I personally believe that if you don't go on as many adventures as you can than you will definitely regret it, or be missing out on some really amazing stuff. Make 2014 the year that you grab life by the horns and pull! Your horns could be a career change, starting a blog, heading to France to learn French, taking a cooking class, or travelling a few hours out of town to somewhere you haven't been before. Motivational Monday

Hello Nelly Belliers,

MONDAY

Holy cow why are Mondays so difficult to get through? You have no energy, it feels like every hour that passes takes at least four hours, and it's really hard to find any type of motivation. I have to be honest and say that I am having a really hard time getting into school this semester, and on Mondays I seem to get nothing accomplished.  Maybe two full-time semesters in a row took all the zippity zap out of me?

This blog post is dedicated to making 'No-fun-day Monday' into 'Motivational Monday'. Here are some things that motivate me! Let me know in the comments area below what motivates you?

MONDAY MONTAGE

I think it is really important to look around and find motivation in your surroundings. Put your coat and boots on (if you're experiencing Winter like us) and head out on a motivational walk. If you have a camera then definitely bring it along as well and go on a motivational photo shoot (mine is at the bottom of this blog)!

MARVELLOUS JUAN PABLO

Yes, sometimes knowing that one of your favourite TV shows is on that night can motivate you to get through the day. I am looking forward to tonight's second episode of The Bachelor, and my sister and I will report back to you as promised on tomorrows blog post. Saying 'Juan Pablo' can also give you motivation. Try it out!

MUSIC

Music in my opinion is one of the best things in life. It can make you feel happy, sad, reflective, and it can definitely motivate you! Whenever I feel like writing and I'm having writers block, I put on one of my favourite tunes and I seem to find inspiration. Whenever I feel like I have no energy, I put on a fun song, and I immediately feel more energized and motivated to go to the gym. Music is not only beautiful and amazing, but it is powerful! Here is a very small sample of my motivational tunes (remember motivation comes in all different genres).

MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES

Who doesn't love a motivational quote? Feeling blue, feeling uninspired, then maybe these will help. Feel free to share your favourite motivational quotes below!
Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control ~ Denis Waitley
Set your sights high, the higher the better. Expect the most wonderful things to happen, not in the future but right now. Realize that nothing is too good. Allow absolutely nothing to hamper you or hold you up in any way. ~ Eileen Caddy
Aim for the moon. If you miss, you may hit a star. ~ W. Clement Stone
I learned that we can do anything, but we can't do everything... at least not at the same time. So think of your priorities not in terms of what activities you do, but when you do them. Timing is everything. ~ Dan Millman

MAKE YOURSELF FEEL LIKE A PRINCESS (OR A PRINCE)

This is my biggest recommendation for a Monday evening. You are done work (or school, etc) you get home, and you immediately light some candles, put on your favourite music, and fill up your bathtub. Don't forget to put in one of your favourite Lush bath treats, and if you are of age you should definitely pour yourself a glass of wine (I highly recommend any wine from New Zealand but especially Villa Maria, my favourite wine in the world). Pamper yourself, and make Monday night a spa night. It won't be long until Monday night becomes your favourite night of the week!

Final Day to Enter : Fridays : First Thoughts on The Bachelor : Food : Fashion : Fur-daughter @ Nelly Bellie

Hello Nelly Belliers!

FINAL DAY TO ENTER: Make sure to Subscribe to my YouTube Channel, follow me on BlogLovin and Twitter, and to "Like" me on Facebook because today is your last chance to win my Nelly Bellie Christmas Holiday 2013 ContestYou also need to post 2 answers below my YouTube video, both questions can be found in my video (link above). This contest is open to anyone (it is international). Don't forget today is the LAST day to enter. Good luck!

FRIDAYS: Congratulations to those of you who made it through your first week back to work / school / etc! Once today is over it's time to relax and enjoy the weekend. What is everyone up to this weekend?

I MUST get to the gym this weekend because it's time to get super healthy. I am still a bit sick, but I plan on kicking this bug to the curb for good.

I think the best part of this week for me was a celebrity sighting. I saw David Sutcliffe walking down the street. I have to say that he looks even better in person (and he had some great scruff going on)!

FIRST THOUGHTS ON THE BACHELOR (JUAN PABLO): If you haven't read my other blog, then click here to find out what my sister and I are going to be doing across the nation. Also, please join in and leave your Bachelor comments below!

1st EPISODE THOUGHTS

VICTORIA'S THOUGHTS (ME)
  • So, I already have my favourite bachelorette. I really like Renee! She is a single mum, athletic (like Juan Pablo), and seems very down to earth, so far. Fingers crossed that my instincts are right on this one.
  • Andi (the prosecutor) seems a bit too tough for me, like she has a few walls up!
  • I can't remember her name, but she got voted off and she is a massage therapist. I'm glad she got voted off, because boy did she seem a bit "off" and the things that she said really didn't make any sense. For instance, she said that the men she has dated didn't like massages. Come on! Who doesn't like massages, especially from someone who's trained to give them? My guess is that they just didn't like them from her, because she was creeping them out while giving them!
  • Nikki (paediatric nurse) seems very down to earth, girl next door, young, and normal. I also like her.
  • Lauren H. Wayyyyyyy too soon to be dating and definitely way to soon to be on The Bachelor! Harsh break-up story, and I feel sorry for her but she definitely needs more time to deal with her past. I wrote those thoughts before he voted her off, so I think Juan and I are on the same thought train on this one. :)
  • Valerie seems very competitive, and I think she's going to cause a lot of trouble for the other girls. She also said that she's pretty! You don't need to say your pretty if you're pretty, no no no (My thoughts before she got voted off. Again Juan Pablo and I are on the same page!).
  • Lacy seems very sweet, caring, and down to earth (sadly she got voted off).
  • Clare (32, part Mexican, father sadly died of brain cancer and made DVD for her future husband). First off, let me say that I definitely teared up when I heard her talking about her dad, and I can't imagine going through that. However... I'm not sure that she's the right girl from Juan. Something just didn't feel right to me.
  • And last but not least... VICTORIA. Now you would think I would love her, just because I get to hear Juan Pablo say my name. That tiny moment was nice, BUT there can only be Juan Victoria! hehe

SISTA K's THOUGHTS

  • Kat...Kylie...ouch!
  • Crying girl told him that because she was going to be a stepmother to someones child, that meant she was a match with him...could see him shrinking in his chair!!

FOOD: I have made three delicious meals this past week, that I definitely want to share with you. I am going to make a vlog or two for a couple of them, but here is my 'Nelly Bellie Easy Peasy Chicken Taco' recipe. This is a great recipe if you come home from work or school and you don't feel like cooking. It's fast, easy, and delicious!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 lb ground chicken (I like to use chicken but you can use any meat that you like)
  • 1 onion
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 3 large tomatoes (or 6 smaller tomatoes)
  • Tomato Paste (about 1 tablespoon)
  • Taco seasoning (you can also make your own - healthier but more time consuming)
  • Cheddar cheese
  • Low Fat Sour Cream
  • 1 Avocado
  • Handful of Cilantro
  • 1 Cup of Iceberg Lettuce
  • Olive oil (about 1 tablespoon)
  • Hard taco shells (most boxes come with about 10 to 12)

INSTRUCTIONS

Heat frying pan, and then add olive oil. Add chopped onion, and finely chopped or grated garlic to pan. Cook until golden brown but not burnt.

Add ground chicken and taco seasoning. If you are using package taco seasoning, I like to use about half of what they recommend. I find it far too salty otherwise. Also, add tomato paste. Mix it all together in the pan.

In between mixing and stirring your meat, grate your cheese, and chop your tomatoes, cilantro, and lettuce. Turn your avocado into a nice guacamole, and add about half of the chopped tomatoes, and all of the cilantro to your guacamole.

Once your meat is thoroughly cooked, add a few of the chopped tomatoes to the meat, so that they get nice and warm (I always recommend a quick taste sample here. Add a bit more tomato paste, or seasoning if needed).

Now you're ready to eat. Grab a taco shell, add some of the meat mixture, top with a bit of cheddar cheese (so it melts in), add a bit of iceberg lettuce, and top with the guacamole and sour cream (and add a bit more grated cheese if you're a cheesaholic like me). Or build your taco how you like it! Bon Appétit!

FASHION: I thought it would be fun to showcase some Canadian fashion this week! I don't think we get enough recognition, and we have some amazing talent in this country! These are a few of my favourite designers this week:
  • Jason Matlo is a Vancouver based fashion designer, and I really wanted to share his work with you. I love looking at Spring / Summer 2014 collections when the weather is cold and dull (it's nice to dream of sunshine and warmer temperatures). I have to say Jason has some amazing designs, and I am really loving #03 on this page (click here). I love bright, fun clothing, and I think he has done a great job at complementing his choice of colours. I would love to own this piece!
  • Joeffer Caoc is a Toronto based fashion designer, and while his Spring / Summer 2014 collection is not up yet, I am really loving the simplicity, yet edginess to his pieces. Take a look at his Autumn 2013 collection and see for yourself.
  • If you are looking for a unique and stunning wedding dress, I highly recommend looking at Anya Dionne's website. Anya Dionne is based in Calgary and her website says that it takes about 3 months to get your dress completed. Take a look at her "Couture Gallery 2014" link. I am absolutely in love with her dresses.

FUR-DAUGHTER: Nelly Bellie has managed to destroy all of her Christmas toys, however it's really not her fault since they all seem to be so poorly made! I got her two more toys (three dollars each from HomeSense), but this time I made sure that they didn't look like stuffed animals. I highly recommend sticking to kong's, tug ropes, and the other more durable looking toys. They aren't as cutsie, but they last a whole lot longer! If you guys know of any good toys (that don't break the bank) let me know!

I also found a great little red waterproof dog coat type thingamabob. I refuse to pay forty dollars for a dog coat, so I kept checking HomeSense and finally found one for $12.99 by OutBack Jack (they are regularly $20 plus tax). The great thing about this jacket (click here to see their website) is that it has adjustable Velcro straps. Perfect for Nelly Bellie since she is still growing. We have also been experiencing -40C weather (no exaggeration) so it was perfect timing! We are back up to plus 1 today though, so hopefully that cold snap is over!

FOTOS:
